Concert Review: Jamie Wyatt Serves Some Sunset Blvd Vibes
There is a real nostalgic heartbeat growing amidst music devourers like myself. Since the pandemic, the importance of entertainment feels amplified. For two years, we were at home listening to music and watching movies as they were the last lifeline to having a life, which is why there are some unforeseen shifts headed to the industry that, even now, are not being picked up. That there is more talent than ever … is undeniable. Yet, people want good and new, which is why, ironically, they go back to old. At MHOW, Jamie Wyatt served us some real Sheryl Crow energy.
Sonically, Wyatt’s music hits like a long, country road. Where it leads, who knows, but the ride is so deliciously beautiful. She creates soundscapes that feel exactly like those long drives where all you see around you are canyons or forests. Her lyrics, literally, landscape love for its nature: either doused in lush greenery or sanded like doomed dunes. I loved that quality because it makes her concert feel oddly zen: like a night of gentle swaying amid starry melodies.Perhaps, that is why I got the Sheryl Crow… Sunset BLVD vibes. Country music needs more space and room for innovation because music, in general, does!
I never forget my philosophy professor saying it is not enough to make a good argument… you have to make a new one or, at least, sound it. This advice goes into music, as well. Wyatt has a Lana Del Rey twang with a Melissa Eitheridge guitar that allows dreaminess to feel grounded. She is very very earthy in personality and presentation: planting her smiles, and stories like seeds in a garden, and it made the might feel like the perfect concert for a work day that felt slightly empty.
New York has 20 million concerts every day, and sometimes it is not just about the artist´s music as much their energy. Wyatt creates a space that is excitingly restful and fulfilling. She fits into those days that are not bad or good, but feel like just another day without a new adventure or tapped desire. She is a new desire, and she is coming in with a sound and style that WILL grow a fanbase.
