Concert Review: Stars Align For Christmas Time At LPR
It was a Christmas miracle with the cast of Stars. Now, of course, Stars is NOT a cast nor an upcoming musical on Broadway, although that would be awesome. Instead, Stars is a group of friends that for over two decades have been crooning hits that make me want to say a Hail Mary over some hot cocoa and chestnuts roasting on an open fire.
I reviewed Stars years ago, and I always remember the kind possessiveness of their fans, as if they were a gift that each of them really wanted. They had an embedded Christmas energy of owning the group’s music as if it personally warmed them through cold nights, and their LPR show was no different. After all, this band is the creator of one of the most mystical, tragic love songs ever, “Your Ex-Lover Is Dead.”
As I write this review, I whirl with epiphanies and realizations like, the inherent fantasy and mysticism of Stars’ in music and chemistry. They feel starry not in the way that stars shine, but in how they are beacons of stillness. Sure, there were sways, but, for the most part, people were mesmerizingly still as if to take step was the equivalent to cause and earthquake. In a way, that is why they paid for the show, especially in a place like New York, you will not find too many artists that make you feel good enough to be still.
There is a melodic peace to their presence and overall setlist that was irresistibly calm and passive, which are words people desire but also cannot handle. Think of the many times, passive has been used as a negative. Yet, Stars sees a suppleness to serenity that again made them warm, and an, overall, really nice night in New York.
