Album Review: Suuns Make You Feel A Dystopian Future In “Felt”
If Suuns could soundtrack every future, dystopian film that would be great! Thanks! (lol!) Suuns are the premier group in building sounds that pounce on sonic concrete like a foot running. In their newest album, Felt, they continue to spike pulses like a sci-fi thriller, and I am here for it.
It seems rightful that Suuns would have an album called Felt because they make you feel as if something has happened. Tracks like, “After The Fall”, “Materials”, and “X-ALT” grit with a darkness that put you in an investigative mind-frame. Suddenly, you are Detective No One, because that is a “futuristic name”, running bright city lights and dirty side-walks to find The Killer. Each track is a new space to discover details, and patch together every rhythm into a clue and probable cause.

Felt is a fascinating experience, and is, definitely, a “go to” album for fantasy. Sometimes, we want to dream we are somewhere else being someone else doing something else, and Suuns provide music for every sphere. This could be why Ben Shemie sings his songs like a church bell in the apocalypse. Suuns’ arrangements are so quick, chaotic, and chopped to oscillate like a sonic octopus, you do not know what to grab for this music ride. Hence, from “Watch You, Watch Me” to “Make It Real” and “Control”, Shemie’s vocals appear solid and stabilizing; managing to ring through chords and keys that rip open.
