Album Review: Dawn Is Bringing A “new breed” of Electro R&B
Dawn’s New Breed IS EVERYTHING! This album will ignite an avant-garde twerk-fest. On one hand, it feels like fashion, futurism, and nature decided to breed a music that your ears could embody like fabric.
Tracks like, “spaces,” “shades,” and “sauce” deserve to be worn as if songs are actually sonic versions of designer brands. Imagine that! Wearing “jealousy” like Chanel or turning “vultures/wolves” into a Dior campaign. Every song in this record feels cool and innovative, but, most importantly, they feel like Dawn. After seeing her in concert, I was in awe on the depth of her music connection. Many times in her life, music her songs have been life-vests tossed to her when stormy oceans/ situations began to brew. Thus, the amazing thing about new breed’s ability to look and feel like a niche brand is that it still achieves a level of wellness and mindfulness.
Influencer culture is all about positive words without always knowing what they mean or how they manifest. Yet, leave it to Dawn to teach people how to be fierce and hopeful. From “dreams and converse” to “we, diamonds,” Dawn fuses NOLA’s culture and sounds with electronic R&B to create a parsee of sonic pleasure. You want to grab an umbrella, and let the sun and wind take you through her journeys as a child and adult trying to figure out what is strength. For Dawn, your empowerment of the world starts with your empowerment of yourself.
As a black woman, she is analyzing how she is a “new breed” of humanity, history and artistry; fusing with an immeasurable strength, wisdom, and compassion. Dawn literally, has audio discussing Black Indian history throughout the record. She weaves raw self-analysis with synths and keys that feel like they belong in a banging discotheque during the year 3019. Therefore, for being ahead of the times in sound, Dawn’s cinched vocality corsets what it is to be human right now. Buy new breed on January 25. Click Here For More Information On Dawn.
