Album Review: Denitia Breaks “Ceilings” For Art
Denitia is the type of rising artist I adore because you know their creativity will be an endless landscape of of music kingdoms or, the case of her new EP, Ceilings. It is clear from her EP that she is an artist eager to grow and explore music in the same way a physicist explores physics and a nun explores God; she is eager to know what is beyond music as a sphere. Hence, Ceilings is all about the series breakthroughs you make when you are young, talented, and a dream comes as easily to you as breathe.
Absolutely every song of Ceilings is imaginative, and furthers the “hype” surrounding Denitia as a songstress showing music as a personal art form. Every song expresses something about Denitia. “Bound To Happen” feels like a contemporary dance between synths and basslines as she coolly sings her faith in destiny. “Waiting” is like a computer filled with rhythms crashed and exploded frenetic sounds, which is befitting considering the song is about the battle between Denitia’s patience and desperation while awaiting an ambiguous, but exciting “change” to life. “Ceilings” shows Denitia’s ethereal/ spiritual side, and feels as if you are floating upwards in longing for a relationship that went downward. Meanwhile, “Planes” is the upbeat ending to the EP, where Denitia returns to exuberant hopefulness for better and a feeling of “flying” through life rather than drudging through it. Personally, I love this EP. In four songs, Denitia has introduced herself as musician that sees music is connective because its reflective.
