Album Review: Doja Cat Debuts Dream Trap With “Amala”
I believe music lives in a space time continuum. Different spaces being fused together into a singular time, while time is parted according to constructed, human perception. Yes, that is an extremely random and deep thought to have while listening to Doja Cat’s Amala, but I kept on think that if music is just a bunch of spaces/ genres fusing together, then Doja Cat’s time is NOW!
From the minute Amala starts, your ears are like, “Yup, this is a bop!” Doja Cat’s debut is pure fun, and meant to be blasted when you and your friends want to feel like the center of the universe. “Cookie Jar”, “Candy”, “Wine Son You”, and “Body Language” toss beats as if they were made from money machines. She is flying twenties and hundreds across the dance-floor, and you can do nothing but twerk and pick them up. Her ability to be wild, yet harmless leaves Iisteners fully entertained.
Doja Cat – Go To Town (Official Video)
From “Game” to “All Nighter”, Amala is a debut album to feel like a dancing badass. Yet, it is the first, literal proof that Doja Cat can make you feel that way. At 22, Doja Cat has spent, already, 10 years trying to find her sound, and it moves me the fact that she landed on something so current in terms of lighting up a sonic party. Overall, the album can be best defined as Dream- Trap. Taking this heavier EDM genre, and adding bolts of rainbow beams to make you feel like you are going hard in a bounce castle. Yes, you are being a kween having a childlike time, and why not? Yet, Doja Cat’s flow is anything but childish.
Doja Cat – Candy (Audio)
Doja Cat delivers her verses as dreamily as her rhythms. In “Morning Light”, “Fancy”, and “Wild Beach”, she treats her rhymes/lyrics like sparkles she is casting over her listeners like a fairy does a spell over her subjects. Once gain, from her instrumentals to her style, everything matches to be light-hearted, which I love. We all need that artist that only asks us to feel vibrant right now, and not question what that means in the moment. For More Information On Doja Cat And To Buy Amala On March 30 Click Here.
