Album Review: Jukebox The Ghost Takes You Off To The Races

Sometimes, an album title truly encompasses what an artist is delivering. Jukebox The Ghost’s Off To The Races is like a run. From its very beginning, you feel taken on a chariot, and you a racing forward praying to never be caught because it is too fun to move.

Boredom and the feeling of being stuck in place is what sparks our inner turmoils, but songs like, “Fred Astaire”, “Simple As 1,2,3”, and “Jumpstarted” put your feet in sprint mode for that dance floor, in part, because your mind is already going. From their guitar melodies to their harmonies, Jukebox The Ghost capture that feeling/ thought in your head that keeps saying, “I got to go! I have to so somewhere else!” Where, to whom, or for what are not exactly answered, but how many nights have we simply grabbed our coats and let the stars carry us to wherever it wanted us to go.
Jukebox The Ghost – Everybody’s Lonely

From “Colorful” to “See You Soon”, Ben Thornewill is the singing force behind this “go mentality”. Thornewill has a folkish, girded voice that causes Tommy Siegel and Jesse Kristin’s harmonies to blend with his like two syrups going into a shake; they add flavors while Thornewill adds the weighted base. Yet, their capacity to exhilarate and drive your imagination into a feeling of invincibility does not go without their nods to what holds it back. As I said, boredom is a powerful self-nullifier, and in tracks like, “Boring” and “Everybody’s Lonely”, Jukebox The Ghost say hello and goodbye to your wounds. For them, you only acknowledge the bad to heal it, which is why they refuse to dwell on anything that keeps them down.

I have to say Off To The Races is a happy album, and I am for it. My tastes in music are wide because my moods, emotions, and thoughts are, as well. I believe you need to scope genres so as to scope yourself, and Off To The Races is the album you put on when you don’t want to “turn off” again, and go back to your typical “No” mentality. Thus, on March 30, say “Yes!” to Juke Box The Ghost’s Off To The Races And Click Here.
