Album Review: First Aid Kit Leave Me Empowered In “Ruins”

First Aid Kit won my heart at their Town Hall NYC show. The Swedish sisters were like a breath of fresh air that knew how to become a wind storm if anyone threatened their strength. In hearing Ruins, I felt the concert foreshadowed more of their new thoughts/ new tracks. This new album elegantly displays their goal of embracing life and their womanhood.
First Aid Kit – Postcard (Lyric Video)

It is hard for me to believe that Ruins is their fourth album because it makes these twenty-somethings music veterans. Yet, there is no doubt that First Aid Kit KNOWS how to create meticulous music that seems beyond their age like, their wisdom. “Fireworks”, “To Live A Life”, and “Rebel Heart’ are just a few standout tracks in an album that is standing alone in excellence. More than ever, they have created tracks that are romantic in strings, but are lyrically more focused on building self-love as a platform for relationships. This brilliant idea in not unheard of, but is refreshed by the voice of Johanna & Klara Söderberg.
First Aid Kit – It’s a Shame

As the sisters meld their voice like iron meeting fire; they roar and amber messages to live life to fullest, but it is not only in terms of joy, but also justice and love. Defend yourself, those you care about, and every idea that has inspired you. It is a moving motivation that makes songs such as, “My Wild Sweet Love”, “Nothing Has To Be True”, and “Hem of Her Dress” feel like gently, country fused teas you drink up as you observe sunny harmonies. No song in the album loses its sense of delicacy even, when it is trying to ignite a challenge or confront it like, “It’s A Shame” or “Ruins”. Yet, again, it is First Aid Kit’s graceful voices that allows tracks to flow like they were made to spring. The entire record is concise and crisp as it spiritually fulfills your sonic thirst like, tea.
First Aid Kit – Fireworks

First Aid Kit’s Ruins has to be one of the best country albums of 2018. YEAH, I SAID IT! It plays to every sweet and sullen chord we love in our country acoustics, but steps up the duo’s personal growth a singers/ persons. More than any album, Ruins holds First Aid Kit’s tenacious spirits in their verses, which shows their maturing desire to be fierce women that fall in love and stand empowered.
