Album Review: For Wet, A Heart Can Always “Still Run”

Wet’s indie-pop/ R&B runs through love as if it is in a cove; blissfully swimming amongst your heart’s bluest waters with sole access given to your truest love. If that is not the most romantically, vivid depiction of love then un-harden your heart and listen to Wet’s Still Run.

Kelly Zutrau’s voice is what gives Still Run its subtle R&B/ folkish element. She has a vibratto that becomes “vibe central” in tracks like, “Still Run,” “Out of Tune,” and “This Woman Loves You”. Her vocals give Wet’s songs a narrative style; as if she is a woman writing love letters to herself so that she can remember how she loved another. Moreover, Zutrau has a natural quake to her notes that sounds like a heart flexing from the rush of both being loved and being loving.
Wet – Lately (Official Video)

For Wet, love is exciting because you receive from it, but you also get the opportunity to be giving, and, in that, you receive the most from yourself. “11 Hours,” “Softens,” and “Visitor” make you sway as if you are a sheet in the wind; each electro rhythm organically lacing over the other to further that romance stems from vulnerability. Still, there are tracks to bop to such as, “You’re Not Wrong” and “There’s A Reason”, but, in general, this record feels soft, delicate, and unwavering in its effort to show that love runs through your heart even after heartbreak.

By the time you reach “Love Is Not Enough,” you feel like Wet have given you a Millennial web series on how to fall in love, grow up, and move on from a single relationship. While Still Run is ambient pop at its finest, with light zips of synths to keep you moving, it is a record to show relationships are integral to everyone’s growing process. Matter of fact, it is how we embrace relationships that show us how we embrace ourselves, and, through Kelly Zutrau’s fresh, effervescent voice, you will want to embrace love better.
