Album Review: Lana Del Rey Serves Music Fantasies In Lust For Life
Nobody like Lana Del Rey to make depression seem gorgeous. Us, Lana Del Rey fans, have been loyal to her “music is art” motto because she frames the sadnesses of life as if they are worth putting up to display. In a world that, usually, asks us to quiet, ignore, or pretend that tragedy does not affect us, Lana Del Rey comes off the like a retro- glam image of tragedy, itself. Her new, album Lust For Life is another stellar play into her usual themes of “never winning” the guy, but always dreaming about him.
Lana Del Rey – Lust For Life (Official Video) ft. The Weeknd
Lust For Life hazes over fans as if they have entered the whimsical of poppy field in OZ. To sniff the beauty of Lana’s flowery songs such as, “Beautiful People, Beautiful Problems (feat. Stevie Nicks), “Heroin”, and “White Mustang” , is to enter a visionary dream where you are not the decider of what you see. Lana uncanny way of painting sour romances makes you imagine like you are just rolling through different, times versions of Romeo and Juliet. “Love”, “Change”, and “Cherry” scale from brightness to utter darkness by showing the sonic power of a bass to convert an epic, emotional rush into a dower crash. It is in this that Lana continues to dominate over the fans; she plays with people’s hearts by showing how hers has been played. Yet, Lust For Life is certainly, her most confident record in being seen as a glitz, regal pin-up of love’s toils.
Lana Del Rey – Summer Bummer (Official Audio) ft. A$AP Rocky, Playboi Carti
From her scintillating coo’s in “Summer Bummer feat. A$AP Rocky” to her breathy vocal blazes, “The World Was At War We Kept Dancing”, Lana has grown as a firm vocalist that reveres her made for “war-radio” style. She may not get all the radio-play she deserves, but her “cult-like” following adores that she sounds like she was made for 1940’s radio stations; as the boys go off to fight, she remains angelically present in their easy-listening. Thus, her uses of trap beats “Woodstock, Coachella In My Mind” or pop-rock melodies “13 Beaches” never steer away from her presentation as a woman fighting the universal energy/ fate of doomed love. Thus, Lust For Life leaves fans fulfilled and dreaming just like Lana Del Rey’s music has always done. Moreover, it plays into our fantasies over another, more novel-slue life.
