Album Review: LANY’s Self-Titled Debut Observes The Simpler Things Of Love & Heartache

LANY is quickly becoming a Pop Icon without much radio-play. With only their self-titled debut just coming out, they have toured the world with sold-out shows filled with LANY loyalists. Thus, it is no wonder they have been compared to the 1975 or as a modern boy-band rousing young fans with electro-pop that dances on love’s wounds and whims.
LANY – Good Girls

I have always marveled at how pop-music can make the darkest sentiments like, heartbreak, feel like a disco-worthy soundscape. This may be why it dominate the radio; no other genre sweetens the bitterness of life like, pop. Hence, LANY are like Kings of The Bittersweet. They mash their name and style off the two cities that have produced the most music icons in the world; LA and NY. This explains why songs such as “Overtime”, “Hurts” , and “Super Far” capture the most popular themes/ conic choices running through their music scenes; synthwaves that are softly bright, keys that feel moonlit, and basslines whose heaviest drop still feels feathery in landing. For LANY, “going hard” is still an enlightening endeavor; they are not asking you to go crazier than what your “Parents” or “The Breakup” have already made you feel. Thus, their calm, seraphic R&B stylings as in “It Was Love” and “Flowers On The Floor” bring a delicacy to relationship failures. It is as if they decided to light a candle within love’s darkness, and watch how the the room in your heart slowly brightens again. Hence, Paul Klein always sings as if he is in a romantic dream, despite love’s nightmarish tendencies. He utters lyrics for their simplicity, which elaborates both the catchiness of LANY’s music, but also the easiness of love’s seduction.
LANY – ILYSB (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

From “Pancakes” to “Dumb Stuff” and “Good Girls”, there is so much magic to Love that, in perspective may seem too less or uncomplicated to be attractive, but everybody has heard how the “simpler” or “smaller” things in life are what make it feels so big. From eating breakfast every morning with your partner, loving how they would wrap their hair in the summer, respecting their kindness, there are so many little things to appreciate about love, and LANY sings to that. Hence, when the “Hericane” hits or your left crying “ILYSB” (“I Love You So Bad)”, you understand its because so many small things made a huge impact on you that you may not be willing or so quickly ready to let go. Therefore, LANY may be friendly to ears, but their remarks on love are worthy of a listen, and can be done so by Clicking Here. Their Self-titled Debut LANY comes out on June 30.LANY – It Was Love (Official Audio)
