Album Review: Liza Anne Takes A Much Needed, Bad Vacation
Liza Anne is taking a Bad Vacation in the form of a very good album. Bad Vacation is a self aware account of the emotionally difficult years that followed Fine But Dying’s success. The album reflects on her time on tour and where, fresh out of an exhausting relationship, which took a considerable toll on both her physical and mental health, she grew self-destructive. Thus, the album is an eclectically, hypnotic soundscape that quilts the disappointment that can follow achievement.

You ever completed a goal and thought …. Now what? Sure, you may enjoy the achievement, but there is a loss of purpose. You already arrived to the “destination,” but you still have time on your hands. In some ways that is the journey Liza Anna takes as she bases her lyrics on the intensive therapy she underwent to achieve spiritual reckonings. She is taking the pain caused herself to transfer it into respect for herself, and you can’t help but relate and admire, especially because the album truly feels sunny in its melodies. Perhaps, the best way to approach sadness is with a bright disposition.
Liza Anne – Change My Mind (Official Audio)
Much like her album cover, Liza Anne is carrying her emotional baggage like one would carry an umbrella, towel, and basket of snacks across a beach. She is lugging her pain while her voice soothes with simplicity. Thus, her lyrics become the album’s foundation with describing her time of explosive self-loathing, “I was a wreck. I left the relationship and was desperate to find emotional safety in someone else. It felt better to have someone outside of me show me love than sit with myself long enough to learn how to show myself love. I was on a bender for emotional safety, not knowing that I could be my own healing space.” We all can feel that pain, and on July 24 you can hear it.
