Album Review: Mondo Cozmo’s Is “Your Motherf**ker”
Mondo Cozmo’s Your Motherf++ker EP is sexy. Yes, I said it! It simply sounds like what you blast when you want to walk with a confidence against those that threaten your esteem. If Plastic Soul introduced Mondo Cozmo as a rock legend, this EP steps him confidently towards that role.
Your MotherF**ker, compared to Plastic Soul, feels more grounded. I could hear “Hey Steven” and “Tonight Tonight” playing at a bar as a bunch of working- class gents lament boss troubles over beer. Sonically, Cozmo has proven he can take a guitar chord and soar through the cosmos with a Ziggy Stardust sensibility. His attraction to philosophical lyrics continues in this EP, but earths itself with a vibe of “venting”.
Mondo Cozmo – Music Box Session
From “Your Motherf—ker” to “Sold,” his guitar led melodies feel like the keys to revved cars. Yet, where are those cars driving too? For Mondo Cozmo, his melodies make you go, while his lyrics observe how you stay in place. While nearly all of us complain about being stuck in our love lives, careers, and social class, we still stay in place, but Cozmo is OVER IT! Blessed with a voice that rises like a hand reaching from a grave, he knows how to sift through the dirt of feelings to fight back against the things/people that try to lessen our life’s value.
