Concert Review: Jones Shows New York Love At Rockwood

Contemplating a move to NYC, Jones celebrated the release of New York EP with an intimate show at Rockwood. The friendly songstress sang to letting go of past loves while still dreaming of that “Silver Screen” romance that enraptures young girls to grow with fantasies of love. Yet, if there is one thing Jones knows it is that love is not a fantasy, but its reality can still hold fantastical elements.

I have said it before; love makes you grow. Yet, from “Hoops” to “Waterloo Station,” Jones’ tracks talk about how we need to grow for love before it comes. While we all wish for a man or woman to sweep us off our feet, not many ask whether they are ready for that. Tracks like, “Tender,” “Waterfalls,” “How About That,” and “Indulge” show how we can become hypnotized by the fun images and intimacy of love, while forgetting that, in some ways, you have to earn such moments. Relationships are not all “hand-holding” and cutesy giggles. Once you become vulnerable to someone, you start to see how insecure you are with yourself. This is not bad, but as Jones’ all acoustic set showed; it pushes you to grow up and think about how or when you should  let others in.

From “Wild”, a song she dedicated to her mum, and “Melt,” a hit she wrote with Horns, Jones’ writes songs that are not simply jams, but are also open-hearted notes from a woman reaching for her dreams and seeking a worthy, good partner to join her in the search. She is confident in her flaws, wise in her constant learning from life, and completely absorbent of the energy in a room. It was obvious, the crowd loved her; as she balanced accessibility with elegance. We all want to walk through our humble lives with sophistication, and Jones’ light, breathy voice whistles in your mind to teach you how.
JONES – Silver Screen

With how easy Jones’ vocals feels to an ambiance, I kept on thinking of humming. Usually, we hum or whistle as a simple pleasure to blank our minds. Jones’ music feels like a hum; ethereally floating into your everyday. For More Information On Jones Click Here.
