Album Review: Noah Cyrus Mourns “The End of Everything”
I love Noah Cyrus’ voice. It has this “Dolly Parton meets Miley Cyrus” quality to it. Of course, the latter is her sister, but Dolly’s voice was known for its ability to make joy and sadness natural. You have voices that are inherently emotional; singing lyrics as if they are reliving the very heartbreak or happiness that wrote them. Noah’s voice is similar, and in her new EP, The End of Everything. you can’t help but feel like you have entered sad song galore.

If someone told me Noah Cyrus put all her saddest memories and darkest feelings in an outdoor pool, swam in it for a day, and then went off to record this EP….. I would say, “That’s it?” The record is like a lavishly textured look into feeling low. When you are young, heartbreak feels like “the end of everything,” and, like my interview with Kyd The Band, Noah embraces that, when you feel down, it is okay to stay down for a minute. Losing the wonder of a lover is the same as losing a dream, and feels as if someone roundhouse kicked you like that “Jeff Goldblum” guy did the crazy, street perv. (Did you see that viral video?) My point is that heartbreak gives you permission for a good cry, and songs like, “July,” “Young And Sad,” and “Lonely” make those instances feel beautifully poetic.

Cyrus can SANG, and she is blessed with a voice that, again, can sound similar to her sister’s but is not the same. Thus, she is distinct, and is blazing her soundscape in the moody, electro spaces between pop and country. Quite frankly, End of Everything feels very NOW; with its arrangements twinkling and waving forward to modernize the “classic sad song” like in “Ghost” and “Wonder Years.” Buy End of Everything Here. Comes out May 15, and it is a MUST LISTEN! Click Here For More Information.
