Album Review: Lila Iké Want You To Have “The ExPerience”

I’m not going to lie! Lila Iké is my TOTAL VIBE! Listening to her record, I kept on thinking late 90’s, early 2000’s reggae and dancehall. YAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Back in that day, the twerks were slow-moving, and lyrics held a soulful consciousness: commenting on the everyday person’s desire for a better society and a quench to their lust. Thus, hearing The ExPerience, I was 100% READY for Lila to make old school new again.

From Pop to Hip Hop, retro is the new way to go forward, and I am alread predicting that the early 2000’s/ 90’s will make a sonic come-back post-pandemic. When people are down, they look back on the past, even in music style. Yet, they want verses and vibes of hopeful futurism. While Lila Iké EP, The ExPerience, could, easily, be dropped in 2004 Dancehall clubs and be a smash; the point is that it is a total smash now, as well. Thus, upon introduction, she leaves an impression that is timeless and sensually fun.

From “Solitude” to “Thy Will,” Lila paces and putters her verses and rhythms to show passion is something you build. Hence, she even hails back to classic R&B’s vocal ability to make seduction sound like a daring and drawn luxury you annotate, which is why can already envision the couples grinding on the dance-floor to this EP. GOD BLESS! (lol!) Frankly, I welcome the unabashed, cool presentation for bodily and emotional connection Lila delivers in this record. Her voice is both angelic and smoky; misting over trop beats like a cloud over her sunny goal: to make couples fall in love again. Lila Iké’s The ExPerience comes out May 15.
