Album Review: Noga Erez Shows Music Is A Social Movement In “Off The Radar”
I love Noga Erez. I reviewed the star back in the day, and know that she can give a cool, electric performance. Like her concert, her debut album, Off The Radar is a twist and turn of her voice and heart. For her, music is a much more impactful way to approach how social issues define individual lives, which is a frequent tale for the Israeli songstress. Based in Tel- Aviv, Noga Erez surrounded herseld with art, even amongst the cities’ most violent times, and Off The Radar is a whimsical amassing of h0w the mind flies, flops, and forgets in imagination,
At 15 tracks, Off The Radar is filled with varying instrumentals that thrash, clash, and crash as if Noga Erez is swimming in a sonic vortex. “Dance, While You Shoot” and “Muezzin” are just a few of the tracks in which the singer gets subtly political in her lyrical prowess. Slightly satirical and genuinely serious, Noga Erez has a way of presenting pain and insanity like they have challenged each other to a dance competition. As the beats behind her flare like light-beams ricocheting from a neon disco-ball, Erez’s voice ranges from casually smooth to fractured. In song “Toy” and “Junior” she emotes her vocals to have a quiet exhaustion to them as rhythms clap, twinkle, and press upon your hears like you are the ground for her sonic soldiers to march upon. There is not one single that sounds like the other or even itself all the way through its minuted march. Hence, Off The Radar truly embodies its name by sounding like a treasured record from an distant, unknown island. From “Pity” to “Worth None”, you get the feeling that Noga Erez looked deep into the strangeness of her mind and the world to build a sound that is as distinct and thoughtful as her. Such a precise endeavor explains why Noga Erez is one of the few indie artists of Israel to branch over international waters; she cannot be copied anywhere. More importantly, it makes her debut an igniter of anticipation for her future work. For More Information On Noga Erez And To Buy Off The Radar On June 2 Click Here.
