Album Review: Sigrid Gives You A “Sucker Punch”

Sigrid’s new album is 100% her. Sucker Punch represents everything that Sigrid has shown she is: fun, tough, and open. Her genuine personality has transfixed fans that really want to believe, for themselves, that who you are is good enough. Sucker Punch exemplifies that notion, and it does it by reminding people that very honeycomb has queen and she runs it by being authentically strong.

Can you fake strength? I guess….. but, eventually, life throws you a punch that proves that tests whether you can really fight. “In Vain,” “Level Up,” and “Don’t Feel Like Crying” speak to the instances when you are tired of being tired. When tears feel like a too “Basic” response to being hurt by someone or succumbing to the same, old situations of unkindness. This is an important message that feels amplifies by how sweet and simple Sigrid is as an artist/ presence. She feels like the last person that would “Sucker Punch” another, but even the good of this world need to learn self-defense.

Sigrid – Don’t Kill My Vibe

“Strangers,” “Sight of You,” and “Never Mine” are all about realizing the losses and gains you have gathered from relationships. Sonically, they feel like a boxing match between candy bars; they saccharinely punch. Her synths and baselines have hints of trop-pop, and create soundscapes that are benevolent yet edged, which follows Sigrid’s MO of being cool, approachable, but not crossable. From “Mine Right Now” to “Business Dinners,” Sigrid’s voice choreographs through notes to show she is stylistic with her range. She moves her vocals like a body ducking and delivering sucker punches through her notes.

Sigrid – Plot Twist (Official Video)

Overall, Sucker Punch is wonderful debut for an artist that is building a mass, pop following. Sigrid’s ability to make the power of her voice accessible is the definition of both talent and authenticity. All in all, Sucker Punch is a reflection that you have to have your back through failures and against haters. You can’t beat that message. For More Information On Sigrid Click Here.
