Artist Close-Up: Alex Kostka Sings For The Motions of Life

Seasons really do manipulate our feelings. During the winter, I cry like I am the ending of Forrest Gump, but during the summer I am basically the scene of him happily running across America. Meanwhile, Fall and Spring make me feel like I am marrying Jenny. The point is seasons move humanity’s mood, and Kostka writes his music for the motions of emotions/ seasons.

A staple of the Midwestern- Indie scene, the beauty of nature is ingrained in Kostka’s voice and craft. Summer melodies, autumn ballads, winter wanderlust lyrics, and hooks that feels like they, themselves, have feelings, Kostka has a “joie de vivre” quality that cannot be denied. As seen in tracks like, “Motions” or his last EP “Far From Near”, he captures the optimism of being young and not having much, but feeling like there is so much more to come.

Sometimes, I think the reason we get jealous of the young is because, even when they have less, they still know how to hold hope for more. Hope is what twinkles delicately between Kostka’s rich, tender vocals and his emotive guitar. Like many artists, especially of this time, he may display the anxiety of living, but he understands, like the seasons, your stresses are temporary. Thus, you feel taken by his songs as they stroll you through the “weather of feeling”. For More Information on Kostka Click Here.
