Artist Close Up: Lola Marsh
Hailing from Tel Aviv, this Israeli indie rock band is essentially everything good about American music. When you hear their sound, you feel like they traveled from the 1970’s Americana-folk scene to bring Millennials a modernized version. There newest track “She’s A Rainbow,” embodies the spiritual journey their music can make you take.
I don’t know how Lola Marsh has done it, but they have managed to make a song that matches the colorfulness of a rainbow. Their rhythms and hooks make listeners feel like they have jumped into a skittle bag: bright and sweet. It is no wonder that the song builds a sky-like sentiment because guitarist Gil Landau never fails to bring out the natural beauty of acoustics. They feel so light that maybe a feather dropping would be heavier. This lightness is perfect contrast for Yael Shoshana Cohen’s voice, which can make anyone want to hug a cloud with how deeply sexy it is.
Yael’s voice is sultrily relaxed. It is as if she is unaware or unmoved by the wry coolness of her voice, which makes it sound more endearing. If you listen to the song, you will understand her effect. Her voice’s ability to be potently vulnerable, yet casual is intoxicating. Her annotations and slight vocal rhythms are just apart of her natural essence: not planned, only welcomed.
Their EP You’re Mine was released this year, and contained their typical Earth meets Heaven vibe. Yael’s grounded, gritty vocals, combined with Landau’s picturesque indie rock, make Lola Marsh an unstoppable pair. I am highly excited for their future, which includes an album later this year.
