Artist Close-Up/ Review: Rae Isla Is No Longer Blue
I had the privilege of witnessing Rae Isla perform her new EP, No Longer Blue, at listening party. The singer is like a magnet when it comes to drawing a crowd, but the private, acoustic event allowed her to be even more open and bubbly. She is a generous artist; adamant on making bit of her music connected to a moment/ meaning of importance to her.
No Longer Blue is gorgeous. “Mexico,” “Jesus Was a Woman,” “Turbulencia,” “Endless Summer,” and “Love Is My Religion” are like desert dreams. They make humanity feel holy; as if our feelings are both the crown of thorns and the crown of Mary. We tussle between our emotions hang over our head to either enrich our demeanor or bloody our grace. Isla ALWAYS brings a natural level of spiritualism to her songs that makes this energy feel welcoming. Spiritualism and Religion are often tied and even confused for the other. Yet, some people are solely religious while others are solely spiritualists. For Rae Isla, no matter what, you have to see your spirit as the universal seed growing within you.
If your soul is a flower to blossom and care for, then life is the soil, sun, and water it needs to do so. Yet, make no mistake! There will be times when you get too much water or sun, or feel like the soil beneath you is no longer holding you firm. It is in these instances that Rae Isla’s voice arises like comfort; telling you to hold out from both dry and wet storms. Her voice is mature and meaningful as it sings her poetical verses. Once again, she aims for the mythos of being human, and has no qualms alliterating and hyperbolizing all that makes up a soul/ life.
No Longer Blue is as refreshing, clear, and necessary to your soul as water is to your body. The album keeps you hydrated as you realize how sadness has made you thirsty for emotional stability. On November 19, Rae Isla plays Mercury Lounge, of which this album is exceptional to hear live, but also to listen to its inspirations. For More Information On Rae Isla Click Here.
