Is it weird to know someone is going to make it? They say from the first 15 seconds of knowing someone, you already know if you like them or not, and I think the same goes for a song. Its “first 15” must be so good and attractive that you say, “Okay, I can stay listening for 3 minutes”. “Biggest Fan” by William Joseph Cook creates such a “first 15” impression that you cannot wait for his debut record, Sweet Dreamer on April 14.

“Biggest Fan” resonates with 90’s alternative- rock hits that proved guitar strings could be “sunnied” before strummed and that vocals could be as “chill” as a California beach. Smash Mouth, Sugar Ray, Blind Melon, Everclear, Weezer, Sublime…. okay I am rambling in names. Yet, these are the names that defined the 90’s, whether you like it or not, and though some are made fun of (Sugar Ray) while others are still glorified (Weezer), the point is they made you feel like a day could feel brighter and love could go better. Cook matches with all those sentiments and sounds, even in lyrical themes. “Biggest Fan” resonates with classic songs about declaring your love for someone. As Cook plays with his surprisingly wide vocal range/ falsetto to sing “I am your biggest fan”, you feel a potential swoon come over you or, at least, a relatable nod. Who has not crushed on someone they admire for their accolades, from neighbor to celebrity, and wished their fictional fantasies of love became real. Honestly, accomplishments can attract people to someone, and the song’s sweet, simple guitar melody exemplifies how wrapped you can be.
