Artists of 2020: Aoife Nessa Frances Is Ambiance

There are artists that are total moods: literally summoning within people an imagined space fit with a set emotion. I can literally listen to The Weeknd and picture myself tossing money at a strip club while crying for the one that got away, i.e. he is a mood. Yet, Aoife is an atmosphere; playing to a dimensional sentiment that feels beyond grasp even if its commonly understood.

When I listen to Aoife, I feel like am hearing both a funeral and a celebration, which can, technically, be interchanged. She celebrates life and love with a sweet nostalgia that comes off quietly sullen like a woman recalling the kindest act even done for her while living the meanest moment. It is a paradox we all can understand, especially with 2020 starting off as crazy as it has. Honestly, I am already missing 2019, and I can’t say that year deserved too many love letters. Yet, thankfully, there are artists like Aoife that know how to make the past feel like an ambience that brews every time you press play.
