Artist Close-Up: Gnash Is Heading To Irving Plaza

It is hard to believe that Gnash has made his debut, We, considering his name has been associated with so many hits and rising acts. He feels like a guy who has been around for awhile, in the industry, because he sings like he has been. This is, particularly, true when you think of how well Gnash has sung to a rising generation of music listeners seeking some good, sad songs.

If there is one thing that Gnash knows how to do well, it is a catchy, somber song. Yet, he has revamped the “sad song” attraction we all have, but given it a saccharine, pop soundscape filled with hypnotic hooks such as, “i hate u, i love u.” No matter how down his lyrics may get, you feel like you walked into a bouncy castle with tracks like, “Nobody’s Home” and “T-Shirt.” Somehow, he has seemingly realized that people have a love/hate relationship with their loneliness.

On one hand, we arrogantly coddle our solitude like it is a badge of honor that proves we are the “only person to feel alone.” On the other hand, it is like a badge we are dying to get rid of. Thus, for Gnash, he uses music as a way to make you feel proud to be apart of a community of “lonelies.” From “Imagine If” to “Broken Hearts Club,” Gnash lyrically sinks into the blankets of misery that come when you feel like you will never be loved again.

Sucks is the only word to describe how horrible it is to feel unloved, unloveable, and having no potential to resolve either. Everyone has felt this, but Gnash taps into these insecurities with such a simple panache that he becomes distinguishable. Moreover, his voice has a natural gleam to it. He disseminates his notes for their emotions, and then turns those sentiments into beams of thought. Whether you are thinking about love in “pajamas” or sincerely believe there is a “happy never after,” Gnash appeals to the sensitive heart trying to figure out where is “the one” he or she can share it with. Thus, on January 22, go see Gnash at Irving Plaza and see if you find someone to share. Click Here To Buy Tickets.
