Artist Close-Up: Gracey Masters “The Art of Closure”

I learned, a long time ago, that closure is a personal thing. You don’t really NEED to say goodbye to someone to accept things have ended with them. Lord KNOWS we all have had multiple conversations, in our head, with someone that broke our heart, in which we tell them everything, they either apologize profusely or crumble, and we walk away feeling better. Yet, the reality is a little bit rougher. Sometimes, sorry isn’t enough, your heartbreaker doesn’t feel bad, and you might even find out that you, yourself, are the heartbreaker. Gracey’s debut EP, The Art of Closure, shows all of the above is plausible.

Gracey is a perfect example of how, sometimes, the best and only way to stand out is through pure charisma. There is an essence to her that is swaggy, stylish, and lights up like flashing, neon lights at a club about to hit a beat-drop. (Ugh! Clubs remember those?) Gracey totally captures the moodiness of coupledom and clubbing, which is a surprisingly major venue for relationships hiccups. I have seen plenty couples fight during concerts: women crying their eyes out as the artist, they paid to see sings their favorite song, but their man either A) flirted with the bartender or their bestie B) “forgot” to pay his side of the rent C) is just a mean guy that she feels compelled to publicly ask herself why they are still together during the opening act. Gracey, lyrically, makes the confusions and confessions of love feel like a catchy track you pump up during pre-gaming.

The Art of The Closure, in some ways, reminds me that heartbreak is a really good song to pump up the volume. You never feel more empowered then when you overcome disappointment: something about someone crushing on you or a situation failing and then you moving past it makes you feel your strength. From “Gone” to “Empty Love” and “Care Less,” Gracey shows “closure” is not the easiest process but it is certainly a Pop one: filled with enough candied beats to keep your heart moving at a better, more upped rhythm. Add on that her voice freshens and delights in the power of her lyrics/ closure, and Gracey The Art of The Closure is the first to step a solid, Pop path to Queendom.
