Artist Close-Up/ Concert Review: Alexander 23 Shares His Anxieties
“Stardom” is a weird balance because the lines between generosity and narcissism can feel blurred. Some people want to be seen while others want to share themselves with people. Alexander 23 approaches the stage like a “sharer,” and every time I see him he gets better at sharing his heart.
For Alexander 23, his music is his diary, which is why I found his performance sweet and down-to-earth. No synth-wave could outdo the sensibility of his heart. Like many rising, pop stars he sings to anxiety, and how loving another can reveal your struggles to be mentally clear. Love makes you think of someone else, at times, even more than you think of yourself. Hence, it is important to analyze how you feel about “you.”

If you want to love someone better then you have to see how you love yourself. How you define love is derived from how you let yourself experience it, of which “Another Summer Night Without You” and “When I Die” discussed not letting doubt or fear cut the potential love in half. We all have experienced this: the feeling that, at best, we could only be 70% invested in a moment while 30% was dedicated to the fear of losing such a instance. The irony is that the minute you realize a moment can leave is when it, actually, does. With a presence and voice that feels mellow and coolly colorful, Alexander 23 sung his songs as if life is a music video, and the more love you put into it the better the production.
