Concert Review: Bad Books Are Really Good At Elsewhere
I LOVE BEAUTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love music that takes my head out of its own space, while, inadvertently, making me observant that I even have a “headspace.” How many times do you, actually, notice you have a mind and how it works. At Elsewhere Bad Books felt like a music brain has landed on the stage to show you every way a mind circuits its life through thoughts.
Lyrically, Bad Books have that “Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind” dynamic; where love and heartbreak feel like memories you do know if you want to erase or treasure. On this earth, there is no good without bad and no bad without good, and, for the many that are mostly good, there is something wrong with that picture. “Good” is held to as high a standard as perfect, of which, lyrically, Bad Books paint imperfections like a broken frame of a millions diamonds or a red spot on a perfectly pristine, blue wall. Does that one flaw TRULY overpower the beauty or is it a flaw, in itself, to think it does? DISCUSS!
Bad Books – UFO (Official Music Video)
The second collaboration between singer/songwriter Kevin Devine and Andy Hull of Manchester Orchestra ,the audience KNEW we were about to get into some visual feelings. In essence, if I say Love, you might picture a warm cup of coffee on a red table, and your mother’s hands holding yours as you talk about her childhood and then an orange sun blooms through a window of yellow drapes. Yes, they are THAT VISIONARY! Yet, it is why their fans saw them as their life’s poets; creating songs such as, “UFO” and ‘Wheel Wall” for when you want to think but not over-think. The tracks you hear when you want to make your daily more imaginative and grounded, all at once.
Bad Books – Lake House (Official Audio)
Vocally, Devine and Hull feel planted and potted between spoken words and picturesque singing. Their vocality feels streamed in fullness giving you narrative lyrics with reflective worth. Yet, it is all effortless; from their humor to the vocal delivery. Bad Books is just a pair of guys singing to life and that is good enough. For More Information on Bad Books Click Here.
