Concert Review: Brazilian Girls Pass Promote Safe Sex At MHOW
Nothing like a condom dress to promote safe sex! Sabina Sciubba could not stop giggling as condoms fell off her shiny, red outfit, of which she passed them out to the crowd enthralled by Brazilian Girls’ mix of retro-pop, samba, and electro glory. After 10 years, the group was back and more glamorous than ever to scintillate the Music Hall of Williamsburg stage.
Sabina Sciubba was/ is iconic. “Cha cha cha-ing” throughout the night in all gold, platformed shoes, she dripped sultriness. She pointed at members of the crowd to blow them kisses, say “Te Quiero”, and laughingly guaranteed them she would get high with them later. This only made the audience grow wilder trying to seek her attention and approval. Sciubba was a ripe blend of daring, fabulosity, and pure liberation of self, which is why the night had auras of lust and passion. She would rustle around her wild hair, and then offer her smoky vocal notes on an operatic, silver platter.
Watching Sciubba, I kept on thinking of classic film icons like Marlena Dietrich and Katherine Hepburn, who proved that a “masculine energy” is really a confident, owning one, which is why women can have it, as well. She owned that room, and songs like, “Wild Wild Web”, “Berlin”, “St. Petersburg”, and “Looking for Love” felt like a sonic Carnaval, led by Grace Jones and Blondie, throughout various, cultural sounds. You could musically see yourself in Brazil or Germany trying to find a romantic partner that made your life feel like living art. Isn’t that what we all want? A love story that could be written into a novela, but strictly lived by you.
From “Pirates” to “Salve”, if someone told me the Brazilian Girls were made out of gloss, glitz, and glitter, I would believe it. Their style and new album, Let’s Make Love, felt surreal in how sexy and blissful it made their crowd feel. Moreover, I cannot laud enough how interpersonal and radiant Sabina Sciubba is as a performer. #livinglegend For More information On Brazilian Girls Click Here.
