Concert Review: BRIC! Celebrate Brooklyn! Is Rock N Roll With Gary Clark Jr.
Gary Clark Jr. feels beyond these times. He is a rock legend with airs of Jimi Hendrix on the guitar; flaming his voice and melodies as if he pumps kerosene through his system rather than blood. His performance proves that BRIC! Celebrate Brooklyn has serialized music festivals by feeling like a Coachella spread through weeks.
Just imagine it! Rather than two grand-slam weekends of Coachella, you signed up for an entire summer of such a spanned spectacle. What was all at once became slowed, chilled, and more absorbed by the mind. BRIC! Celebrate Brooklyn takes this mindset by giving a “music fest” vibe that feels simmered into the best parts of Panorama or Gov Ball: the people. Now nearing the end of its run, I am truly realizing that BRIC! Celebrate Brooklyn is the People’s Fest! It is accessible and rich in quality music, which is Gary Clark Jr. proved.

Brooklyn has always been known for its soulfulness and artistic innovation. HELLO!!!!!!! A Tribe Called Quest was founded here….enough said. Thus, Gary Clark Jr. attracted a PACKED crowd that appreciates Brooklyn’s artistic, rebellious nature. He swags through the stage and set as if he has never had a care, but yet he sings songs as if they have been burdened by feelings. It is a strange, altering dynamic: how can you appear so free, but turn every song into a heavy dose of raw, raucous emotions? Maybe, you are truly liberated when you realize you are an emotional being? Hence, “Walk Alone,” “Bright Lights,” and a The Beatles cover of “Come Together (feat. Fiona Silver),” reminded the crowd of rock n’ roll’s very definition.

Rock n’ roll was born from isolationism and oppression: two things BRIC! Celebrate Brooklyn has consistently aimed to fight through their programming and inclusion of charitable works. With Gary Clark Jr. that mission was felt by giving the audience a performance that said rock n’ roll is for the rebels WITH a cause; for the people that do not want be ostracized from others’ or their own humanity. Thankfully, with a voice that spumes like lava and ash to heat up every verse and rhythm, Gary Clark Jr. made everyone feel human. For More Information BRIC! Celebrate Brooklyn Click Here.
