Album Review: Jordan Smith’s “Only Love” Is Romantic Music

I love when music is romantic, and it has a dual effect. When you are single to hear romantic music makes your dream and long to have a “ride or die.” When you are in a relationship, romantic music makes you either want to celebrate the love you have or figure out how to re-infuse it. Jordan Smith’s Only Love has songs for both.

There is no denying that Jordan Smith’s voice is pure delight. He has a voice that, literally, feels like a smile: it is bright and comes out when a moment feels worth smiling for! Thus, tracks like “Box” and “Feel Good” clap with baselines and a happy celebration that love is in the air. Their arrangements, literally, feel like a gleeful, childhood hand game. Yet, they stand to contrast songs like, “Only Love” and “Find Yourself.” Of course, Jordan Smith had to do some ballads, and simmer love down to its boiling beauty.
Jordan Smith – Only Love (Lyric Video)

Smith’s voice may brighten like a smile, but it only does this to show the shimmering, subtle intimacy of love. Lyrically, the album tussles between celebrations and observations about how love makes us happily bare. While most discuss how terrifying it is to be vulnerable to a lover, Jordan Smith also sings to how exciting and freeing it is to have another person with whom you can remove the “mask.” “Please,” “Lonely Eyes,” “Love Her Better,” and “End In Love,” are inadvertent pleas to appreciate and bask in having someone that loves your weird, thinks your silly is wisdom, and sees your heart is gold meant to be treasured. Such messages prompt Jordan Smith as a singer of not just love but romance.
Jordan Smith – Feel Good (Audio)

Jordan Smith’s Only Love is his third studio album, and is his most personal because he helped co-write many of the songs. Thus, when you hear the verse over simple, piano melodies and bouncing synths, you see this is a person that is fascinated by love. No matter what it does, he cannot shake that love has the capacity “to do”. To Buy Jordan Smith’s Only Love Click Here.
