Concert Review: Chastity Pummels Life’s Comfort Zone At Baby’s All Right

At Baby’s All Right, Chastity felt religious. Each chord cried like a baby being born to this earth for the first time, which is a good analogy considering his songs discuss leaving the “womb” of your comfort zone. For Chastity, being “woke” is realizing that life is so uncomfortable.

“You’re Scary Now”, “Suffer”, and “Chains are not just titles to a horror film. They are also titles to Chastity’s tracks. He is a tall guy with stringed hair and a gangly posture that makes him tower over his mic. When he is not singing with hands invisibly tied to his back, he is thrusting them forward as if to toss rocks at the crowd’s glass houses. He is divided between being a quiet, meek guy mumbling his insecurities, and an enraged man roaring his verses to those that judge. Yet, that division is why the crowd got so into his performance.

While Chastity waltzed into the audience, people bobbed and bowed their head as if a deity had walked amongst them. It was strange to see people have such a pacifist reaction to guitar melodies, that raked rhythms with spiked ferocity, and to Chastity’s voice, that could literally yell in agony or whimper in pain. He was the physical embodiment of inner frustrations, which made the crowd flock to him peacefully; as if having self-loathing and doubt be played through song made it less powerful. It is a beautiful idea, and one that builds an ambiance for those that feel like outcasts in a world they still have to live in.

No matter how much you hate the world and yourself, somehow, you need to get better and trudge forward, but you also need an artist that lets you revel a bit in how crappy things can be. You need a musician that does not judge your frustrations, and can, actually, put them into words better than you. Chastity is that artist, and, as plain as it seems, it was refreshing to see a crowd elevate angst through music. For More Information On Chastity Click Here.
