Concert Review: Christine And The Queens Is Phenomenal At Brooklyn Steel
Christine And The Queens is just another level of performer/iconic! Seriously! Her new tour feels like an avant-garde, choreographed version of Rent; giving you Broadway levels of showmanship. There she was, at Brooklyn Steel, with a group of young, twenty somethings observing their sexuality and identity through song and dance. Meanwhile, you were hypnotized by what you watched because you knew you were seeing a once and a lifetime concert.
Christine and The Queens is the type of artist that can define a generation. Truly! In a world, that often discusses love/hate, identity, and freedom; her music and style add another much needed theme to the conversation……ownership. She owns her music, her presence, and her body across gendered lines; happily playing the roles of Chris/Christine. She enamors because you think to yourself, “This is what it must be like to be yourself!” While most of us think that our authentic self is wild, she shows us it is SPECTACULAR! Hence, you do not need to be knowledgeable or even a fan of her music to enjoy her concert. She is the show, and a sheer promotion that inclusivity can be show-stopping.
Christine and the Queens – La marcheuse (Clip officiel)
If life were a circus Christine And The Queens would be the ringleader, the acrobat, and the unleashed lion. She is the ringleader of her dancers whom move around her like planets motion around the sun. She is the bright center of every instance, and she has only grown in firmness and force as she poses and precisely positions herself like an acrobat: even when moving through the crowd. Moreover, from sand to colored smoke and steam, Christine and her queens, i.e. her dancers, were motioning through elements to become a Millennial version Cirque Du Soleil. Overall, her emotiveness and theatricality turns her into an unleashed lion, which makes you wonder why you are so caged. If being and promoting genuineness is as gorgeous as Christine An The Queens performance then we all need to get real!
Christine and the Queens – 5 dollars (Official Music Video)
Sonically, Christine And The Queens is like a French Fables; electro-pop jams that feels written by a humble revolutionary and futuristic goddess trying to make you see the magic of self-love. Hence, her show transports you to a cafe in Paris, Narnia. There you try to find the truest version of you amongst the lion, the witch, the wardrobe, and brûlée; her vocals being this sweet, creamed dessert. Christine is a prime example of how a voice is more distinguished by its potency rather than its power. She is effective in pulling emotions from you with songs such as, “Comme Si,” “Goya Soda,” “5 Dollars,” and “La Marcheuse.” Yet, it did not matter what language she sang because she has a way of making you feel like she is singing, specifically, to your heart, which has no language: only layers.
