Concert Review: Corey Harper Is On The Brink Of Stardom

A few weeks ago, I wrote about Spencer Ludwig and his bonafide ride upwards to fame. These past few weeks the influx of amazing artists being sent to me have surged, and I am beyond blessed. Why? Because to discover an artist with a spiritual value that supersedes gold can make you feel like a walking treasure chest. it is like having a piece of your heart captured and held, when you find and see a musician skyrocket to his or her  rightful success. This week my star-bound pick comes in the form of Corey Harper.
Harper played Rockwood Music Hall on October 4, and appeared like a traveling troubadour readying to give an hour of musical wisdom in exchange for one’s compassion. His words and voices are so insightful that you feel like his songs are not just music but philosophies. Moreover, he appears meek and grateful for the attention of the audience, which only adds to his mystique as a performer all about his music and exploring it as a key to discovering life. His concert was like an instance out of a classic film plot of the extremely talented musician that journeys around the USA pastures in search of fame, meaning, and a listening soul. There was Harper with the limelight solely on him and his guitar, and the audience filled with piercing eyes eager to see this running spirit. The inadvertent, cinematic feel, combined with Harper’s innate warmth, allowed him to make an indelible mark amongst the few acts that played that night.
What makes Harper a magnetic performer is his essence of a humble soul searching for life’s worth through song. There is something romantic and idealizing about his presence as it taps into the inner lostness every person has felt, at least, once in their life. He presents his music as both a call and question of an individual’s spiritual purpose. Whether it be the purpose of having virtues like love or kindness when they can be so rebuked by others or a draining observation of one’s loneliness, life is a continuous questioning of why humanity, including our own, works the way it does. Harper wraps all the realness of life’s turmoils and treasures in guitar- driven melodies and a country-soul voice that will only grow his following.

Like Ludwig, I will not be surprised to see Harper in a few years playing a sold out concert at MSG. He has the “it” factor completely, and a light that is already attracting Billboard and Rolling Stone’s compliments. Yet, what makes Harper so special is not that he will be “big”, because he will, but the empower of smallness that he offers For however rich and famous he becomes, his performance style and soul is that perfect blend of mass appeal and still intimacy. He plays to each audience member as if they are the only one that “gets him”. They are the only one that understand that life is a beautiful and tragic mystery. Hence, no matter what arena, Harper will always have viewer attention and care  gravitate to him because he seems like such a cool, casual, and collected person.

MY FAVORITE SONG!
Country- soul has a new welcome in Corey Harper. His smokey, quiet rasp and heartfelt lyrics on the struggles to just be human are stunning. It is always great to se an artist that cares about their beating heart. For more information on Corey Harper and To Buy the On The Run EP when released Click Here
