Concert Review: Cyn Is Every Young Woman With A Singer’s Dream In NYC
I got the chance to see Cyn “acoustify” her usual electro-pop jams. Turning the sound down, I got hear the lyrics of a young woman with big dream, a lot of hope, and a perfumed voice. Her voice feels like a flowery scented spritz into the air as she promoted positivism at Soho House.
I love the intimacy of Soho-House. It feels both sophisticated and cozy like, having a luxurious bar next to your living room. The vibe matched with Cyn who feels both intimate and of higher ground. In recording, her songs magnify like a Guillermo Del Toro film; innocent, magical, and completely based in the burst of love. Yet, from “Holy Roller” to “Alright,” Cyn showed there is a casual enchantment in trying to build yourself as a young woman.
CYN – Believer
Dreams, love, friendships, and career are all the definers of life. Heck! You go to a psychic or a horoscope, and she/it, usually, divides your life according to such things. Yet, Cyn shows these divisions build a life, and they do it so spellbindingly and simply. Her voice is light and spearing, which is perfect for pop. This genre, in essence, is defined as bubblegum; it makes life chewable, sugary, and colorful. In transferring her music, acoustically, Cyn was able to show this. While Pop can be deemed “generic” or “mainstream,” Cyn proved we only say this because pop goes for the luminous of life, and, despite wanting good, we do fight it.
CYN – Only With You
For a quick set, Cyn left an impact, and has energy around her that says, “Watch me rise!”; hence, my “every young woman” reference. New York is FILLED with young people flocking to this artistic city to make their lives into art, and Cyn provides the pop soundscape that celebrates that: even in hiccups.
