Concert Review: Diane Coffee Goes Bowie At Bowery
Diane Coffee is our generation’s David Bowie. I said it! Of course, no one truly replicates an original. Yet, the power of an original, like Bowie, is that they become an inevitable influence and a subtle note in artists similar to them. At Bowery Ballroom, Diane Coffee was our Ziggy Stardust; the musical alien landing on earth to question why we were refusing to take up our power as cosmic beings.
Sometimes, I forget that, technically, I am alien. There are other planets/ galaxies, and I am sure there is life beyond earth. Yet, in being apart of this universe, I am apart of that Life; its history and mystery. Diane Coffee thrives in that space; creating a show that would make Deepak Chopra proudly announce, “You see! We are all stardust!” Yet, the wonder of Diane Coffee is that, like Bowie, he sings to regular life in a way that turns it into a space adventure. He truly is a man with a guitar singing to the lovelorn, but his presentation is like a Star Wars Emperor pushing that romance is The Force.
Diane Coffee – Not Ready To Go [OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO]
God! I am on my pop culture, space references! Neil Tyson Degrasse and Spock should be proud! Yet, Diane Coffee feels like a testament to the power of human energy and how we truly can make ourselves whoever we want to be. On that stage, he was glamorous, androgynous, and supernaturally filled with passion; delivering songs such as, “Internet Arms,” “Stuck In Your Saturday Night,” “Like A Child Does,” and “Not Ready To Go” like they were written in a delirium of emotions. Frankly, he is very operatic style and even in voice. The way he annotates and belts his notes could be featured on next season Le Boheme, but that level of drama is why he becomes the show.
