Concert Review: Frenship Form A Summer Bond With Bowery Ballroom

IT’S COMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SUMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Watching Frenship dance around the Bowery Ballroom stage like they were drunk off partying was infectiously joyous. It was as if the air was infused with celebration, and the duo of James Sunderland and Brett Hite were gasping it in. These two were making Sunday a Funday!

James and Brett were made for the festival scene. With a huge, neon oval brightening to their songs like, “Kids”, “Capsize” and “Love Somebody”, the crowd felt warped into Coachella. It was an oddly futuristic piece for a set adorned like the outside patio of a Miami home, which seemed befitting with their demeanors. Both guys feel like the chillest men at a rave; sipping on their champagne and completely willing to dance any move if their body feels it. It is their lightheartedness that makes them attractive as performers, and explains why their songs are SO FUN!
Frenship – 1000 Nights

“Run Wild”,“Carpet”, and “Mi Amore”, James and Brett sing to “festival love”, and the magic of a good hookup that feels like eternal love can be born under a beer tent. You may laugh, but it is that carefree wildness to feel romantic that made Bowery there second sold-out show. People sang full-voice to their tracks, and with their eyes closed, which is something you usually do when you are about to kiss someone you trust. Yet, their songs feel like puckered kisses, and their lyrics are the lipstick that paints them in and imprints on your lips.
Frenship – LOVE Somebody

Frenship are making the songs of summer, but they are also creating the harmonies of sky and earth. Both James and Brett scale their vocality as if they are elements on a chemistry table; combining their vocal notes to make their words on love feel like your heart’s natural resources. They either soar their voice to the soprano sky or dig it into the tenor ground, but either way they make themselves memorable like, a good, sunny day with friends. From bashing drums to leaning in and laughing with members of the crowd, these guys are as welcoming and charming as summer, and their ability to summon it in an ambiance makes them a concert to see.
