Concert Review: Hegazy Get Socially Spiritual At Pianos NYC

I, recently, interviewed Hegazy, and had the pleasure of witnessing the minds behind the voices. These two rising songstresses are incredibly talented and thoughtful, which made me wonder how their Pianos NYC show would emanate that. It is not like they are giving a Ted Talk. A concert is meant to be a mindful, but fun experience, of which Hegazy gave a spiritual/ societal message amongst some fine, funkadelic rhythms.

Hegazy is all about the fusions: from pop to jazz. Readying to release new music, the sisters were simply excited to perform, and showed the duality of their styles is what gives their music quality. Leila’s voice bubbles and fluxes through songs such as “Smolder” and “Alive”. While Omnia is described as the rebellious “pop-rocker”, there is something cool and firm to her presence. She is rather still as she twinges her guitar as if she is plucking a flower to question;
“He loves me? He loves me not?”. Seeing her play, was like watching a person tear their guards down through sound. In contrast, Leila was ready to hit a note, and riffing seemed automatic as she coursed though the sisters’ sonic repertoire. It was intriguing to watch their polar dynamics. It was as if Omnia was the vocal stem, and Leila the vocal petals; both vital and beautiful to the song’s purpose. While I went in fully expecting to have an MLK moment with influenced these young ladies are by political backdrops, I felt humbled in realization; you do not have to be loud to be heard.

Hegazy’s music is proof that, at the end of the day, a social message truly is a spiritual one, which means that to empower the mass you need to empower the individual. Like “Here To Stay”, every song of theirs felt like a bright pick me-up that acknowledged pain but also admired hope. Bridging the darkness of reality with the pockets of light that DO EXIST, Hegazy balances positivity and negativity as two coexisting energy; to choose one does not ignore the other. Instead, being positive is all about protecting yourself, of which, for Hegazy, to do so means you have become empowered. For More Information On Hegazy Click Here.
