Concert Review: Jeremy Zucker Self-Made And Ready To Rise At Mercury Lounge

In a quiet, suburban home in New Jersey, Jeremy Zucker was constructing his sound. The 21 year old had a clear vision; he wanted to be a star. Headlining arenas, hearing people call your name, and watching others sing the words you wrote to clear you hear is an attractive thought. Yet, his desire was not in an “ego-maniac” kind of way. As seen by his fans’ adoration, Zucker is an all-inclusive personality, and, for him, music is just another way to get closer to humanity. As the Mercury Lounge crowd filled with fans, friends, and avid fans, Jeremy Zucker might as well have been a global superstar to the likes of Bieber. The young man could do no wrong, but, admittedly, his talent is so right.

I love when artists have vision for themselves. It shows ambition, which is something I, personally, respect. Zucker is involved in every part of his artistry. Production, from video to sonics, is born from his imagination, and how he taught himself to make it reality. Thus, when Zucker goes into a concert, he has an unusual confidence or, at least, a chance at self-pride because he knows the people in the crowd truly love him. They are literally appreciating all that HE has done for himself, and the Mercury Lounge audience yelled how great he was to his coy amusement. He is a warm, slightly shy guy, whose music is used as a door to the louder feelings and bigger dreams in his heart. From how intricate every digitized beat and streamed synth feels, you can tell Zucker is a mind that never turns off. Hence, basslines and drums boomed like explosions of thoughts were anchored by Zucker’s analysis on love, faith, fun, and peace. These are all sentiments that everyone wishes for, but, when you are young, you can feel them so potently. Hence, his tracks like “IDK Love”, “Bout It”, and “Talk Is Overrated” boomed through speakers as lights ranged from near darkness to neon dances. Seeing him croon songs like, “ Sinking” or “Heavy” under dim lighting made his voice feel like a kind shadow; following you as you walk towards the sun. He is so sweet in vocals that it elevate the electricity of his sound. As his vast instrumentals ranged from slowly darkening to quickly bright, the audience followed him to wherever he led; as if he knew the last water source in life.

For however detailed Zukcer appears in style and music, his personality shines as simple, which makes you like him more. He just appears like a smart kid with a great talent and an open heart. Thus, lyrically, he does well to create catchy hooks and verses that latch on to your mind until you find yourself singing along. This may seem like a “minor feat” but the key to major success is, usually, simplicity. The most memorable choruses are the ones that go straight for the basics of emotions.
