Concert Review: Jessy Wilson Is The Goddess Of Elsewhere

Jessy Wilson is a goddess. Often, I ask artists if they feel they were fated for the stage and most of them say yes, even if they don’t believe in fate. Watching Jessy Wilson perform at Elsewhere confirmed, singing, was always her path.

The way you approach a stage matters; energy, without even being psychic, can be read. There are artists who love music, and then are artists who love performance. Jessy Wilson loves both, and does not see how either can be without the other like, a chicken or the egg scenario. In perspective, it makes sense. The minute you sing a note, you are performing and doing so at the very knowledge that once your voice leaves you, it enters others. Hence, Wilson came down on that stage like a goddess casually visiting her praising followers; handling her body and voice with a unmatched grace.
Jessy Wilson – Love & Sophistication

The perfection of Wilson in voice and performance is that you can’t copy her; she is too genuine in her love. Thus, songs like “waiting on” and “Clap Your Hands” had me missing an ex I never had and dancing with a partner that was not coming. (lol!) Yet, THAT IS WHY WE GO TO CONCERTS! …..TO FEEL! I want to experience a performer that makes me relive stories I have never had, even the ones I hope not too. You know how many break-ups I have experienced listening to Mariah Carey?I should HATE INVISIBLE MEN! Wilson delivers the same magic; infusing passion into even the lightest, briskest note like a mother making sure her child has every meal. For her, no note leaves without feeling full and cared for.
Jessy Wilson – Oh, Baby

I was ENAMORED by Jessy Wilson because I like seeing talented performers that love themselves and their audience for recognizing it. WHY HIDE THAT YOU ARE AWESOME? Can somebody tell me when humility becomes denying you are great and confidence became saying you are the greatest? For Jessy Wilson, she is herself, and that is enough, which made her show empowering and refreshing in a very different sense. We were encouraging someone who believed themselves enough to make us believer in ourselves through an exuberant personality and a voice so clean and powerful God would use it as perfume.
