Concert Review: Julian Lamadrid No Tiene Mala Noche

My people are so loyal, and I love it! Alli estabamos para apoyar the Mexican Singer in what felt like the beginnings of a meteoric rise. I do not say this lightly. While watching Dominic Fike, I saw his Elvis swag, and analyzed his ability to be spontaneous and “larger than life” entertaining. At Mercury Lounge, LaMadrid shared his Presley swag, but in another way: intensity. 

I absolutely ADORE when you feel an artist’s hunger. When you KNOW they want to be a star and might as well be the human incarnation of Gypsy Rose’s “Let Me Entertain You.” Lamadrid has a true admiration for CLASSIC classic rock. I am talking the days when Greasers bombarded malt shops to play their fave jukebox single and make fun of the “squares.” When he came out with his leather jacket and proceeded to gyrate like Elvis singing Jailhouse Rock, the crowd went wild, women thought they had met their future husband, and I knew I was watching someone that REFUSED to not be an icon and imprint on the music scene.

Some people, for better or worse, will never let go of a dream, and, in career and song, Julian Lamadrid is the same. JHe spews determination: keeling to his knees and emotionally churning his stomach trying to figure out why a dream has let him down. He is so passionate in his delivery that I am excited to hear him on the radio. His ability to be commercially emotional is invigorating and connects to the recent meteoric rises of Billie Eillish.  Both see dramatically fun equals HITS!

With a rock n’ roll swag and a voice that strikes notes like whips crack glass, he is going to be a star or, at least, his performance proves he should be.
