Concert Review: King Tuff Reigns At Music Hall of Williamsburg

Watching King Tuff play at Music Hall of Williamsburg was like watching the most extroverted introvert. There is a shyness to him that builds and prods at his outlandishness. Calling the crowd his batch of “raggamuffins”, he smiled in mischievousness; knowing this night was for the “crazies” like himself.

As I saw King Tuff high kick and high gear in his set, while wearing a “beetlejuice-esque” suit and the most highly-adorned baseball cap I have ever seen, I wondered how Kyle Thomas developed King Tuff. He feels divided between “Kyle”; the guy coyly smiling at seeing a packed crowd call his eccentricity their view of genius. Then there is “King Tuff”; whom sings
“Birds In Paradise”, “Freak When I’m Dead”, and “No Man’s Land” as if his mind was a cap that could open and splurge out the most fantastical ideas. I swear he snatches madness into his notes like one would a paper plane.
King Tuff – Psycho Star [OFFICIAL VIDEO]

If someone told me that King Tuff writes his songs on a chalkboard like a science equation from a “Beautiful Mind”, I would believe it. His capacity to warp and wove spiritual thoughts with a 1950’s “Night At The Rock N’ Roll Cafe” is absolutely, insanely creative. It was like seeing Elton John and Deepak Chopra dance around a Gotham City nightclub; cartoonish, colorful, and unhinged On one hand, Tuff if the “belle of the ball”; glamming it up with guitar riffs and fabulous musicians that can whip out french-horns and ornate, witch hats like keys from a pocket. All this he does while waving and folding his voice like a man pulling a flag in hopes of getting noticed.
King Tuff – The Other [OFFICIAL VIDEO]

From “Psycho Star” to “Sun Medallion”, King Tuff’s show brightened in the laughs and lulls of owning your insanity while realizing it is the key to your every adventure. Such a theme arose in his last album, The Other, and felt clear throughout tracks like, “Unusual World” and “Never-ending Sunshine”. After all, you do not go off to find “The Other” unless you are crazy or bold enough to let go of what you know. For More Information On King Tuff Click Here.
