Concert Review: Kream Top Chef Their Sound At MHOW

When it comes to Kream’s MHOW show, the duo treated their set like a Top Chef quick-fire challenge; slicing and dicing beats as if to make a 5 star, culinary experience. They, literally, scoot the other or go over the others’s arms like professional cooks; tenderizing rhythms to make them seemingly edible to spectators. The result is a set filled with music you can, practically, taste.

Like most DJs, Kream will give you the “ARE YOU HAVING FUN!!!” that we expect to come from the sonic hosts of the night. There are certain parts to being a DJ that never change, BUT what makes you different is your music and your relationship to it. Similar to Two Friends, Kream vibe with their own music. Part of why they got the dance hall so excited and moving is because they started doing it first. It was like a “follow the leader” dynamic, of which Kream were “red lighting, green lighting” every sonic and physical motion.

Consisting of brothers Marcus and Daniel Slettebakken, the two work in perfect unison; acting like two hands picking up the same package: FUN! They bop and bounce to their 90’s electronica flared sound with pride; taking current jams and making them feel like they were born in a European rave circa 1994. Imagine that! Cardi B’s humble beginnings being in an EDM fest in Berlin. Their deep house takes on Pop and Hip Hop hits to swirl them with an electricity, that takes the natural rhythmic, even tropical styles of these genres, and steam them with a wry mischief.

For some reason, EDM comes off inherently playful to me. For me, it lives in the inner, wild space everyone carries that wants you to eat the forbidden cookie, stay out pass curfew, or skip work to take a “Treat Yourself DAY!” This may seem “innocent,” but that is why Kream and EDM thrive; these are the “innocent” things we swear are “too wild” to do. For Kream, being wild is an innocent gesture, and their music pushes you to to commit it. For More Information On Kream Click Here.
