Concert Review: Lord Huron Reign Over Brooklyn Steel
Performing at Brooklyn Steel, Lord Huron scoped their catalogue to show their music can, literally, flow across records. While Vide Noir had twinges of dark, cosmic vibes, when live, their show is pure, acoustic glee. The sold-out warehouse was packed with faces smiling at songs as if Lord Huron’s music smiled at them first.
From “Hurricane” to “Wait By The River” or “The Night We Met,” no matter what chord their melodies struck, Lord Huron’s show felt as light and brisk as a morning run. The entire band enters the stage with such adrenaline that you feel revived. I have often said that concerts are to relieve stress, but Lord Huron up that goal by giving you energy. They play their instruments as if they are freshly unwrapped, Christmas gifts; turning to one another to riff and dance as if they are siblings celebrating that their parents actually got them what they wanted. Seeing people live their best life will always spark a good vibe, and, for some, it moved them into celebratory woos.
Lord Huron – When the Night is Over
I cannot tell you how many times I heard, “Get it Ben!” or “Yeah, Ben!” People treated lead singer Ben Schneider like he was their most successful buddy. On stage, the lead singer is always the ring-leader for people’s attention because he is “the voice” of the band. Luckily, Schneider’s voice is as pristine and stilling as lakewater. You watch his voice stay beautifully and clearly in place while he does one, two steps across every song like, “Never Ever,” “Ancient Names,” and “Le Belle Fleur Sauvage.” He tosses his hat in the air as if life is a “Mary Tyler Moore” moment, and leads the band into moving through their tracks as if life only becomes true when you are on stage.
Lord Huron – Wait by the River
As humans, we always question what is reality because life goes according to perspective. At Lord Huron’s show, I learned that reality truly is in the present because they managed to wipe away time through their concert. Yet, I also learned an invaluable fact: you know you are a good artist when you see the crowd nod and sway at your music, but you know you are a successful one when you have a catalogue of songs and an audience that can sing along to each one.
