Concert Review: Mack Wilds Observes “Situationships” At Baby’s All Right

When you go to a Mack Wilds show, you should know that you are getting a full-on entertainer. While I should have expected that The Breaks star would definitely put some “acting” into his singing, it was a genuinely nice surprise. Not one track left without a little melodrama played from his body and soul on the trials of what, he called, “situationships.”
Mack Wilds – AfterHours – Go Crazy (Episode 2)

If you do not know what a “situationship” is than you probably have one right now (lol). It is an emotional limbo we have all lived in, at least once, in which we are a back-burner of love for someone. Either your lover or you are hesitant to define the relationship, or there is a “third-party” seeping in as if third-wheels “truly” make love’s bicycle run more smoothly. Nearly every one Mack of Wilds’ songs cater to the rollercoaster of “situationships”; where the cards of fate or plain immaturity are barring you from upgrading to fuller relationship. The notion is what drives his concert and the crowd into an emotional space chorusing “Yes!”, “Tell Me About It!”, and “Don’t I Know!” in agreement with the young singer; sometimes, love really is about timing. Whether a personal, career opportunity impedes you from investing or the fact that you are not spiritually ready blocks you from connecting with your partner, Wilds played every single reason for why relations can stay in situations, and I was LIVING FOR IT! . Mixing in songs from both his newest album, After Hours, and debut New York: A Love Story, Mack riffed through tracks such as, “Own It”, “My Crib”, “Choose”, “Obsession”, and “Go Crazy”; each as invigorating and debating as the last. Mack would put his hands on his head, lick his lips, and yelp in smoothed agony over what to do; choose love with someone else or choose love for himself, which can clash. The audience grew wild with his physical displays to soulful debacles, and his playful bond with his band added to the hyped energy.
Mack Wilds – AfterHours – Obsession (Episode 1)

Wilds could not stop cracking jokes and calling on the crowd to cheer. He drinks the audience’s applause like oxygen, and he is not ashamed about it. Why? He loves the attention, and the audience loves giving it to him because Mack calls on “old-school” performing techniques where the vocalist would talk to the crowd about his day/ “situationships” as if we were all college buddies reuniting at an old bar. You match personality and “pizzaz” with notes that can scale through a vocal register like, an escalator to Heaven, and you have a performer that is a guarantee “good show”. Although Mack Wilds was ,particularly, happy that night for doing his firs, NYCt show, in a long time, he performed too well for me to imagine a bad show associated with his name.
