Concert Review: Morgxn Empowers Brooklyn Steel

I am consistently surprised by how much artists grow better in time. It seems obvious, but something about “It Gets Better” feels too plain and thus unbelievable. At Brooklyn Steel, Morgxn not only shows how far he has come as a perfumer, but how settled he is in pushing a message of betterment between people and within himself.

There is no denying that Morgxn pours his heart into his songs; plucking from personal experiences of when he felt like less and wanted to be more. Such a sentiment is common, but not everybody can make a pop anthem out of it. What I love about his songs such as, “Carry The Weight” and “A New Way” is that they rightfully claim “odds are against you.” Systems turn on people. Rights get denied. Life is genuinely unfair, and that is not something we should dismiss or treat lightly, of which Morgxn does not.

With his band backing him, he was front and center; charming and calming. These qualities are vital for someone singing to a truth we deny because A) it feel weakening or B) it is hushed as an unstoppable fact. Again, that truth is that life is unfair and there are constructs to keep it that way. Yet, from “Home” to “Holy Water,” Morgxn had no problem telling a story or showing what inspires him to see how he constructs himself. No matter how much the world may tell you that you are less or you should have less, you still have to live in it. So then what? Hence, his songs are the observances of someone seeking love and joy in a time where so many feel he shouldn’t have it.

Representing PRIDE, Morgxn was full of energy and confidence. I have seen him perform several times, and, this time, I got to see him without being behind an instrument, which can be even scarier. There you are, bare and open: with nothing to hide behind. Although Morgxn has never been one to be shy, it is humbling to see him come forward more and more as an entertainer. Hence, it is true; it, or rather he, gets better. For More Information On Morgxn Click Here.
