Concert Review: Neil Frances Are A Groove At MHOW

While everybody obsesses over music that is a “vibe,” Neil Frances one ups the ante by creating a groove. Their imaginative soundscapes come to life to turn your reality into a colorful cartoon. Frankly, after reviewing Took A While, I was curious to see how they would bring to life their record. I was surprised by how doubled it felt in sound, style, and overall energy.

The duo of Marc Gilfry and Jordan Feller, Neil Frances is super chill in presence. They simply stroll on and make waves of sound. Yet, the buoyancy of their music become tenfolds; transforming MHOW into an urban disco of sorts. Their sounds are perfect for when you need a morning zest, as you walk to work, because they pace and pounce rhythms like steps marching down the street as if it were a dance-floor: turning concrete into neon. From “Dumb Love” to “Ask Me Anything,” Neil Frances’ music felt like a street fashion meets Boogie Nights.

Throughout their show, I kept on dreaming of beautiful people wearing urban gear like, Rihanna rocking an orange hoodie and brawny timbs, dancing to music that made Neil Frances appear like a galactic Bee Gees meets Unknown Mortal Orchestra. I cannot describe how their rhythms aligned like graffiti over minds because it is a modernity your feel. Marc has a supple voice that is as cooled as a winter chill but as emotively warmed as a summer breeze. He and Jordan effortless in their delivery; focused solely on offering music for you to dance like it is 2077 and you have Saturday Night Fever like its 1977.

The ability to make retro feel futuristic is a real gift, and why Neil Frances’ performance felt like fashion. Their arrangements might as well come in the form of cloths and jewels because they create a worn aesthetic; allowing you to visualize their songs like style choices. Yet, such a “groove” makes sense considering to see their show is to invest in a concert/soundscape that is completely different from usual shows. For More Information On Neil Frances Click Here.
