Concert Review: Let’s Talk New Politics At Warsaw

Anarchy will never fail in attracting people because, for some, rules breed chaos and lies. In a way, they are not wrong. How many governments have inflicted laws upon people they do not even follow? The whole point of systemic corruption is to build a narrative where “the worst” of humanity can appear “good and civilized” while the rest of us confuse broke for broken. Okay, that is enough of my Tolstoy-esque renditions. Yet, my point is made and so were New Politics at Warsaw.

Their music is really in their name. They are a rambunctious rock n’ roll that will, literally, do head stands to entertain a crowd and also fulfill them. For New Politics, the best way to combat societal hypocrisy or political plots is by remembering that we fight to have fun. From “Harlem” to” Unstoppable,” their songs rolled off the stage like the cook-out gathering before the impeachment. They we are with our grilling ribs, our ice cold beers, painting signs and singing karaoke. I loved the message because there is an idea that being revolutionary or resilient is this dry, serious you pick up, which it can be. Yet, we resist the stupidity of others when we experience the wisdom of some, particularly the ones we love. When we share kind acts and virtuous verses with someone, you grow protective of those moments, and lead singer David Boyd exemplifies why by being the brightest, lovable front-man you can see perform.
New Politics – Ozone (Official Lyric Video)

David Boyd approaches the stage like that friend who convinces you a pub crawl on a Tuesday after work is a “YOLO” experience to be had. He feels free, fun, and wild; a man unafraid to live for the moment and tantalize his audience to do the same, even if we don’t have his moves and voice. Whether or not he is so coolly rebellious, in real life, is not the point because that is what you should be as a performer. He reminds me, in voice and style, to Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ Anthony Keidis, particularly in the video of “California;” a young man surviving the hazards of a dangerous, game city to sing his heart out and win more lives.
