Concert Review: ONR Brings Humility And Honor To The NYC Stage
I had the pleasure of meeting ONR at Mercury Lounge, and I only mention that because, in a rare instance, the heart that was on stage was the same one off it. As performers, we may develop personas to protect and prosper the parts of our art we wish to most convey. Yet, ONR is a humble man, and humility is the core foundation from which his music launches.
From “Love In Suburbia” to “5 Years Time”, every song of ONR’s revived and redefined the idea of submission. In perspective, “submission” feels like an enslaving term. After all, you should never submit to an oppressor or an act/ regime that aims to destroy your joy. Yet, for ONR, submission is not about giving in to how you fight someone as much as giving up the constant fighting of yourself. Nearly every song, from “Jericho” to “American Gods”, ONR to using your desire for joy as your fuel against the moments or movements trying to take it from you. In essence, self-hate never fought others hate, and this lyrical connection feels like something a humble man would achieve.
ONR – AMERICAN GODS (Audio)
As he waltzes and almost lunges across the stage, ONR appears, physically, like a man bursting with thoughts. He moves between complete stillness, holding the mic and staring forward as if God is waving for him behind the audience, and then walking around like he is doing a fitness video for your soul. Both modes are enthralling because, again, of his lyrical messages, and the genuine feeling that ONR thrives on connection. His voice feels like a spear of faith soaring through air to land safely on love’s ground. Thus, as he continuously nods at the audience in gratitude, as if we are the royal court and he is a visitor, your hear can’t help but say, “Awww!”
ONR – Jericho
I know that “Awww!” may seem like a basic reaction, but when you “Awww!” at ONR it is not in a “cutesy” fashion like a puppy. Instead, it is the sweet nobility of his voice and demeanor; thanking everyone for loving his sound and thanking music for choosing him to carry it. For More Information On ONR Click Here.
