Concert Review: Quinn XCII Is The New Fresh Prince At Irving Plaza

Quinn XCII is the new Fresh Prince. For nearly every song of his debut, The Story of Us, I felt warped back to 90’s summertime. I kept seeing visions of Will Smith, Jazzy Jeff, and Quinn rocking tanks, BBQ grills, and dancing with “homies and honeys” as if a party never ended. All this flashback, friday feeling felt really good for a Tuesday.

That is one thought I kept on repeating as Quinn XCII burst unto the stage; ITS TUESDAY! He felt like the weekend during the week, even mentioning his gratitude to see people ready to party like it was Saturday when they had work tomorrow. And the people were ready! It might be because Quinn XCII is such a compelling, high-powered figure, but it was as if he did not have to do much to get much. If his fans could, literally, hug his songs like, “Full Circle”, “Always Been You”, and, of course, “Kings of Summer”, those tracks would have been pummeled with arms of love.

I know this sounds strange, especially because he is a rapper, but Quinn XCII has a “Bieber” effect over his crowd. They sing songs like, “Fake Denim” and “Bootleggin” as if there psalms being read in Easter, and Quinn XCII certainly has the commanding vocality to make you pay attention to an ENTIRE sermon. Still, their devoutness to the rapper is magnetizing, especially because he sings to the daily anxieties of life rather than the societal ones we expect from a Hip Hop tracks. Like Hoodie Allen, Quinn XCII raps to the person that lives inside their head, and tussles between making their mind feel like a cage or a party.

As a proud, over-thinker, I appreciate the ease from which Quinn XCII is able to flow from stress to sensuality. One minute he is singing to the “Worst” and then he is declaring “FFYL (Fool For Your Love)”. You gravitate to the casualness of both his “heart-makes” and “heart-breaks” because, again, the guy is a relatable charm. He, naturally, appears on the stage like your best bud would your birthday party. He is exciting, approachable, and ready to get LIT!!!!!!!!! “Candle”, “Make Time”, and “Don’t You” felt like sing-alongs between friends at a house-party , and Quinn XCII was the host that should have been topping charts since his birth. To have such a powerful impact on only your debut means the sky is the limit for Quinn XCII. Click Here For More Information On Quinn XCII.
