Concert Review: Gorgon City Turn BK Mirage Into A REALM
I have seen Gorgon City a few times, and no one can deny that they are a party-starter. As they have developed their music has become more futuristic and dimensional; pushing themselves and others to elevate club escapism. Thus, if you are expecting their new tour, Realm, to be a club party, you are not in luck. Yet, if you are expecting it to be a world of fun, they got your back.
The minute you entered Brooklyn Mirage, it feels like a planet upon this planet, which is why it was perfect for Gorgon City to go to the “next-level” as DJs and performers. They felt like handlers of “the realm” assuring its mystical creatures, the audience, always had love and energy throughout the night. The show was 100% a proud spectacle; with people packed in and moving through and with each other as if touch was transcendent. Yet, this felt rightful and natural considering Gorgon City has upped their production into a factory of rave music and visuals.
Gorgon City, Kaskade, ROMÉO – Go Slow
In no irony, Gorgon City has embraced what “club-haters” call the inauthenticity of the dance scene: lighting. For some artists and music-lovers, a lot of lights are a distraction to the sound, but for Gorgon City lights are the face of sound. For them every strobe, dancing image, and smoky light hued sonics to create the realm. They saw that production is as valuable, if not a key player, to music in creating a space, especially when wanting to amplify their own song. You could not help but listen more to what was moving you by being stimulated by so many factors.
Gorgon City – Elizabeth Street (Visualiser)
Realm might be the closest Gorgon City has ever gotten matching the visionary worlds in their mind to the visionary world of the club. The dance scene relies on people spontaneous and present imagination to feed the hours they are going to be in constant motion. There was NO STOP at Brooklyn Mirage. Every corner of Gorgon City’s “The Realm” had a person swaying as if they were a tree being shook by the night’s light wind. Because Brooklyn Mirage is open aired, with a second floor to watch those dancing below, it was awe-striking to see so many people being maneuvered by every sonic twist and turn brought out by Gorgon City’s set.
